I am looking for a module that will allow me to attach an image to a article but i can't seem to find any in the modules listing. I would like the image to be displayed on the homepage and in the category listing pages.

Can anyone point me to a module that will do this for me.

ummm ?

the image.module ? which is in the downloads area sorted by name under "I"
or in the media category when sorted by categories.

Try using cck and the imagefield module. I much prefer the CCK approach - it is more suited to making an article content type. Do some googling on the subject and I'm sure you'll find the modules and much more information. Lullabot.com had a great article detailing the imagefield vs. image module debate.
