I don't think I quite understand the difference between the 3 types of widgets that can show up on Node > Edit with regard to Category.

1) One of them nearly always seems to show up. It's labeled as "Categories" and usually only presents a selection list with the Container in bold, and I can choose the child Categories.
2) The second one shows up as "Category Information" and is also on Node > Edit and allows me to input a description, but also allows the selection of a Container and Category beneath it!
3) The third one that I see will appear as a Tab on certain nodes, next to Edit, up at the top. Clicking on this gives you the same exact "Category Information" controls as #2 above, but on it's own page. What's the point?

I guess I'm confused about the implications of each, and the redundancy is really annoying me and making my site feel messy and unorganized. Can anyone try to explain what's going on here?

Thank you.

Is there seriously no one out there who understands the different category controls on a node? I'm practically ready to start disabling 1 or 2 of them because they seem so redundant. Please help!

Can you provide a screen shot? I cannot find the problem that have on my installation.

Sure, here are sceenshots labeled items 1 through 3 according to the order that I listed them in the original post. I noticed while doing this that item_3.png seems to show up on CCK types that I have created and then allowed to be designated as Categories. But still, they have the original fields in item_2.png. Honestly, I feel like item_1.png snuck into one of the updates over the last year or so, and wasn't part of the module when I started using it. I could be wrong about this.

What I'd like to know is why there are redundancies, how to disable them, and if each control does something different, what they do.

Thanks for your help!

screenshots were removed for security reasons, and no one has helped with this issue anyways.

Coloryan or anyone else, have you had a chance to look at these shots? Thanks.

All I can say at this point is that it's likely I'm going to abandon this module when I move to Drupal 6. There's a serious lack of support for such a module which causes it's users to have serious dependance on it once we start using it.

Hopefully I can find a way to make Taxonomy do all the things I needed from Category. :(
