I'm working on trying to make a multiuser art/photo gallery, along the style of deviantart, flikr, those kinds of things. It looks like images all upload to a single directory, though. I was wondering if there was a way to fix that so they go to directories for each individual user. (ie, Bob's pictures go to files/images/bob, Jane's go to files/images/jane stuff like that)

Looking over this again, it seems to only apply to files using upload.module. Image.module appears to have a separate uploader(?)

correct image.module has it's own uploader. Outside of the module already pointed out, I don't believe there is another module that does what you ask, except for maybe IMCE.module which you may choose to investigate.
