Anonymous (not verified) commentedAfter reading more on this, I first discovered that the nolink class is added to the menu items.
However that seems to not really be that helpful, at least for me it was too difficult finding all the places that needed to be added into the various stylesheets, I could not get that to fix the issue.
Eventually I found a thread (I found it once, can't find it now) which at the end indicated to change Configuration>Special Menu Items>HTML tag for "nolink" from to .
That seems to easily fix my problem. I gather from some other threads that may not be acceptable for everyone.
Hope this helps someone else.
