This is just a default. A bad default though since the introduction of stream wrapper notation. I removed it as default and in the README.txt example. In the image effects text test module it it still there, but in the correct notation.

I got same error:

Unable to find the file 'lhandw.ttf'. Please check the path.

Now what?

Update:

Just use this path

sites/all/modules/imagecache_actions/image_effects_text/image_effects_text_test/lhandw.ttf

You dont need to install module mentioned in #1 of #1849020: Cant get text test examples to work
