A Drupal installation directory could not be found for using Drush

I have installed drush in the root directory of my CentOs vps to run alongside my unix command line terminal but not sure this is possible- may cause many conflicts?

When I try to call drush command it says drupal directory cannot be found or unknown command clear drush cache.

I have tried calling drush from within drupal folder /var/www/html/mydrupal

My question is can I run drush within terminal for drupal stuff and not have it conflict with what I prefer to do via terminal for apache , mysql on my CentOs system?
