Advice regarding Taxonomy/CCK

Description
I have no hierarchies in my vocabularies. I have 4 Vocabularies set up with 5-10 terms in each.
I am trying to determine what would be my best bet. Content Taxonomy, CCK Taxonomy Fields, just using CCK Select Lists or neither.
I need my vocab terms to have the option to be displayed in Exposed Filters, for narrowing down content.
My reason for getting off taxonomy is
A.) Theming is easier (node form, and display)
B.) Performance is better ( The joins and inner joins of core taxonomy hurt)
C.) I like the idea of everything being in 1 Table.
Can I get just a little feedback from anyone regarding my best course of action? It really would help a lot.
