Hello,

We use Drupal Version 6.14 on our company intranet. We host our own intranet on a Unix based Virtual ESX Server. Now, we have had a requirement by one department to add a forum onto our intranet which is restricted to their department only. Is this possible to do using this Drupal version we have? Is there an addon/plugin we can activate/use? Any assistance with this would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

is the department their own role?

core forum.module with forum access.module or taxonomy access module may get you there.

Department Forum

Yes the department is their own role (hoping i understood that correctly). I dont understand the second part of your comment, please advise. Thank you.

investigate the core forum.module (ships with drupal)
and the following contributed modules: forum access and/or taxonomy access

of of which may solve the permissions issue per role (department).

Forums Setup

Hello,

I am in the process of setting up a forum on our company intranet. I access our admin area and have checked the forum box which now gives me the option to add a forum. I wanted to be sure and ask that if in forums I click on add forum that will simply add the forum to a page on the site? also can somebody explain what add container means? how can i edit permissions and access to this forum? can I also set it up so that users must login to post comments?

Please advise and many thanks in advance.

Create Forum

I ran through a test forum, but once saved where does it publish to? any help would be much apperciated, thank you.

a container is what holds forums.

Container - Musical Instruments
forum - saxophone
forum - drums
forum - guitar
forum - bass

permissions are set per role in administer -> permissions. if you need finer grained permissions, investigate modules such as forum access, taxonomy access in contrib.

forums are listed on the forum overview page, no different than here on drupal.org: http://drupal.org/forum

Forum Location

Hi,

Many thanks for the replies which I understand. One issue I have is that i create a container and some forums then when i go to our pages on our intranet I cannot see them anywhere. Is there a default location or somewhere where it should be? do I need to do something in addition to publish the forums to our site?

Please advise and again many thanks.

perhaps: http://drupal.org/node/796472 will aid. You can also enable the core help.module which provides internal documentation for core features.
