ok, so im starting to learn a bit. i was on here asking some questions about setting up podcasting on my site without having to host all the files. since i want to use dj content, mixes are usually pretty large in size since they are 60-80 minutes.

once i came across the rss enclosure mod, i installed it right away thinking it was my answer. now that i now a bit more, it seems i am missing something or it is not. when i subscribe to other podcasts similar to mine, the email (i use outlook for rss feeds) actually downloads the entire attachment. takes forever, but it downloads it. the rss enclosure mod seems to just have a link for the file in the email rather than having the file attached.

thinking about things more, i realized, how can my site really do that? is there a way for my site to pull the file that is hosted externally to include it in the email? seems like it would not be possible. or maybe it is and i just have it setup wrong.

any comments?

Hmmm...

Does it work using other RSS readers? Give that a try if you haven't already.

If it's not working with any readers, open the RSS feed in your browser, and do a View Page Source. Do you see an tag? If not, you're missing something.

For instance, are you actually putting the link to the file in the RSS Remote Enclosure section of the node editor? Encl_remote won't get the media link from the body all by itself. The risk is too great of grabbing the wrong link, maybe guessing wrong on the MIME type, even not being able to get the file size automatically (if you're still using PHP4).

Let me know if this helps, and thanks for giving it a try!

Cheers!

seems that in feedreader it seems to download the enclosures. maybe this is just a bug with outlook 2007 rss catcher. i also started to think about things deeper. i may want to have whatever icon i show for subscribing actually pointing to my feedburner feed (which feeds from my site) so that i can take advantage of the counters and such. also, it appears that the feedburner allows me to produce xml for the itunes store where as you module doesn't.

am in on the right track here? is there any other advice you can give? i think podcasting is obviously allready popular and I am sad to say this is one tech thing that I am behind the curve on.
