I built a site using Organic Groups. I'm a relative newbie to Drupal but the more I learn the more I'm wondering if my approach to building this site is all wrong.
This site is part directory listing/part social network. There are multiple 'groups' setup already, and when a user registers for the site they can join one or more groups. These groups include names like "Musicians", "Bands", "Dancers", "Music Teachers", etc.
I used Organic Groups to set everything up so far, but I'm wondering if I might be better off just simplifying by:
1. Disable/remove Organic Groups and just create my own simpler setup by creating a content type named 'Group'
2. Creating separate pages, manually, one for each manually setup group.
3. Create roles - two for each group: "Group Member" and "Group Moderator", with permissions set accordingly.
4. Create different content types so that members can add new content so that it will show only, via a view, on the intended group's page.
Anyone who's done something similar have any advice regarding this? At this time there is no plan for site user's to be able to create their own groups, which is why I'm questioning whether to use OG at all.
