The Submenu Tree Use Case

Drupal provides a great framework for creating and editing content. However, structing content, especially into a hierarchy, is one area where site builders might find Drupal lacking.

Submenu Tree provides a method for structuring content hierarchically. For content which has a menu link, Submenu Tree can display a list of content which is at the same level or below the content in the menu.

Common Use Cases

Consider using Submenu Tree if you are trying to accomplish any of the following:

  • You want to display all of the first level menu items in one location (such as in a navigation bar across the top of the site) and all of the second level menu items in another area (such as in a block on the sidebar).
  • You want to separate the site navigation into multiple levels and present the user with only one level at a time.
  • You require the functionality of the core Drupal Books module but find it too limiting or difficult to use.
  • All of your content is closely related. You want to display titles or teasers of content at the same level or below the current content.
  • You want to display full lists of content that are at the same level or below a piece of content and do not need the complexity of the Views module.

Examples of Submenu Tree in Action

Submenu Tree allows site users to structure and displayed website content in many different ways. Although the flexibility provided by Submenu Tree is often useful, it can also make imagining how to best structure your own website content difficult.

For examples of how other website owners use Submenu Tree to structure and display their website content, see the comments below.

* If you have a site which uses Submenu Tree, consider leaving a comment explaining how you use it to organize and display your content and provide a link to a part of your website which demonstrates Submenu Tree in action.

Could I make the submenu in Drupal 7?

The submenu created in the site http://stmarksumc.com/node/159 is what I am looking for. Do you know where could I download the module for Drupal 7?
Thanks for your help.

Need help on Submenu Tree usage

Is there any tutorial on Submenu Tree? I do not have any idea on how the submenus block was created in the example sites.

I enabled the module and edit my pages to add the submenu details but it doesn't works.

My primary menu structure as below:

Primary link
-About
--Company Info
--Subsidiaries
-Products
-Partner
--Local Partner
--Oversea Partner
-Contact

The Submenu Tree Display Block in my right side bar show nothing when I click About...
If I use Extended primary link, i can only see extended link from About, but not submenu from Partner

If using the Extended Primary

If using the Extended Primary Links block, make sure that you have ticked the 'expanded' option for the parent menu items.

United for Justice with Peace

Just found Submenu Tree for my Drupal 5 site and it works perfectly, solving a problem since I've had since I launched - how to present menu items related to the page the user is viewing. An example is "See Also" at http://justicewithpeace.org/welcome.

I only have one wish. I set it up the same way for each node that is on a menu, but have to fill in the details for each node. Why not have a default setting so that new nodes are created with the selections already chosen?

Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society

Here is another site which uses Submenu Tree http://www.baitulmukarram.com

Any great tutorial

any great tutorial from scratch on how to setup this one?Kinda confuse with the process.

Submenu Tree Site

Another one: http:www.artsinform.com

Use Context, Menu Block, Nice Menus and Submenu Tree to provide as close as I can get to well-behaved hierarchical navigation in Drupal - it's taken me a while to figure it all out... Use Submenu Tree to provide deeper links into site content, see this page for all modules in action: http://www.artsinform.com/?q=what-we-do
