IN the past, i was advised to use nothing but Aquia to host a Drupal site.
Just did a search...subject came back as March 2012....and poster said it was working fine.
Haven't read much news lately on Hostgator and drupal.
Anyone using Hostgator with any success?
Thanks for your input!

Depends
It will depend a lot on what site you're running. Specifically: (a) how busy, (b) which modules, (c) whether you need any specific PHP extensions that HG and/or Acquia may or may not have installed. Indeed, are you talking Hostgator's shared hosting, or a VPS?
The other thing to be aware of is that Hostgator used to be a privately owned company, but (you probably know) was bought out by Endurance International Group (who own lots of hosts) as of June this year. Some people seem to report that it's business as usual and gladly recommend Hostgator; others are reporting that there are problems that never used to be there. Truth is: It's probably too early to tell.

Thanks James, I was
Thanks James,
I was interested in shared hosting...i don't think that Hostgator has VPS (but i could be wrong).
So basically...it sounds like it depends on
1. Which modules i use
2. Whether or not Hostgator has those installed.
PS.
Did not know that hostgator was sold. Not a good sign. They used to be a good hosting company (sigh). I hope they continue with the same decent service.
...
Hostgator VPS - not that you're interested, but http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/
Given what happened to other hosts after EIG bought them up, no - it's not a good sign. But Hostgator's reputation is basically still good longer after the tales of woe and disaster came out of those hosts. We'll see.
It depends on
1. Which Drupal modules you use (are they particularly resource intensive)
2. Whether or not Hostgator has any particular PHP extensions of Apache modules that you may need - if your needs are out of the ordinary. For instance, do you need git (not part of PHP or Apache - I know!)? Do they allow git? I don't know.
It also depends on the amount of traffic you'll see. Because HG don't limit your disk space, they have to find other ways to limit your resources. Otherwise the whole of Facebook could be run off the HG Hatchling plan. So an overly busy site that needs more than a moderate amount of CPU or RAM is likely to get throttled or even suspended. You're far less likely to hit that problem with a specialist Drupal host like Acquia.

Those are some nice sites you built...and fast. (im in the USA)
Are you using HG or another Host company?
Thanks
My own. Dedicated server is leased from Future Hosting operating out of their Chicago (Steadfast Networks) data centre.

I am not a HostGator customer
I am not a HostGator customer but I do have an old account with one of the other Endurance brands. Anything run by Endurance is garbage for a Drupal admin. HostGator might still be running on their own system now but things will go downhill once they convert fully to the Endurance system.
Here is an excellent list of hosting brands to avoid:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endurance_International_Group
I was just reminded of how bad Endurance hosting is for Drupal when I tried an installation on this old account. I had not even added content yet (just adding modules) and I get blocked by too many MySQL queries:
PDOException: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1226 User '[me]' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource...The entire account becomes disabled for about 15-30 minutes. This is an automated measure to prevent resource hogging. Don't expect a Drupal installation on an Endurance hosting account to support more than a couple visitors at a time.
Endurance is only good for hosting static HTML. Don't bother with MySQL.
Hostgator is great, my site
Hostgator is great, my site has been hosted by them since 2009. No issue so far.
I just subscribe to Inmotionhosting VPS for my another project, and i was really impressive by its server speed.

I had good luck with
I had good luck with Hostgator before I opened my company. I had no problems with my site being offline or anything, and support was good as well. My website didn't experience much traffic at the time though so that could be a deal breaker- I don't know.. But I did have good service & support.

I'm experiencing problems
I'm experiencing problems with hostgator currently. I have an old Drupal 5 site, which suddenly "started to consume too much resources". The project has been on hostgator since 2007 and had traffic levels like 5000 uniques per day. Today it has hardly 500 uniques per days and "started to consume too much resources"... cmon! nothing has changed in this project, traffic droppped 10 times, but the load has increased... this is impossible. I think that hostgator oversold its resources at max, at least on a sever where my project is. Now I'm looking for other shared host for this project.
