blacklabel_tom commentedLooking through the issues, there is work going on to assign new users default avatars until they have uploaded thier own.
I think that would be a cleaner solution than allowing users to upload thier avatar on registration.
Off the top of my head that's how things like facebook and linkedin do it.
Cheers

autolyst commentedOn the default settings for the user image I noticed that the image displayed is only resized. So if you upload a portrait image for instance you are left with a bit of whitespace to the side of the image. This would not be the case on an avatar taken from a social login as they are typically square. I would suggest changing the image format for the user avatar to a scale and crop with equal length and width so that it will always show as a square when displaying the avatar on the profile pages or attached to posts.

blacklabel_tom commentedSecond that, it would save hassle for people who have portrait avatars to upload

lisarex commentedRight, I think the avatar default will be included, and it's optional to change it to something else during registration.
