Its very weird but cant see profile in core. not listed in modules but the folder exists and contact form on node when enabled does nothing , shows nothing.
Really strange plus the fact personal contact forms are not showing up either.
Everything to do with profile and personal contact is stuffed up and it was before upgrading to 7.18.
And it makes no sense whatsoever a simple personal contact form can't be placed on a node that anyone can use but as I said the module contact form on node regardless of settings is doing nothing at all.

profile module is core Drupal
profile module is core Drupal 7 not separate in module.
Goto people>account setting>manage field. Enjoy this new profile management...

core profile.module is deprecated in D7. The folder is still includes to aid in D6 updates. it's marked hidden in the .info file which is why it can't be seen on administer -> modules

That makes sense but then why would contact user forms not be visible in public profile if enabled?

not visible to whom? admin / auth / anon?

including myself admin . i have permissions to allow everyone but anonymous and even i can only view personal contact through people users edit not in public members profiles where each and everyone of them are enabled.

if profile2 is installed that may alter the way personal contact forms are dealt with. I do recall, at least at one point, you having it installed. personal contact forms work perfectly well here on my installs. I'd consider testing on your vanilla install.
