if i have to display blocks only on certain pages,
under block configure page, i need to check the " Show on only the listed pages."
and how do i list the pages
is it like

"node/65" or q=node/65

Pls clarify

per the instruction under the block

Enter one page per line as Drupal paths.

so 

node/1
node/3
forum/*

would be an example entry. if you don't have cleanurls enabled, the paths will have to be adjusted accordingly.
