It would be nice if Drupal had persistent signatures. This way a user does not leave a trail of information that no longer applies within their signature. Example if a user has a URL in their sig and that URL changes or ino longer exists. The present way leaves the old information in each of the user older postings. The changes should propogate throughout the system.

Will White commentedThis is a good idea. I often get questions about this from my visitors. Many other forum systems have this and it would be a good to have as an option.

This is common sense! The current signature implementation is ridiculous. It should behave the exact same way that the user pictures behave. What if when you changed your user picture, that only changed your picture for future posts? You would leave behind a trail of past user pictures?
There should also be a role based way to control wether or not a user can even have a signature since most of the time they are abused.
