Is it possible to specify the sorting of the Categories block? It wasn't immediately obvious.

This will be a null issue soon - the Categories block has been removed from Drupal 4.6RC1. If you'd like sorting, or the block at all, the current suggestion is to create your own custom block/code. There's been some discussion about this in the RC1 post: http://drupal.org/drupal-4.6.0-rc
