I have a .po file containing

#:
msgid "Woodsaws"
msgstr "Scies à bois"

the Scies à bois is displaying as Scies � bois.

What am I doing wrong?

In some situations I had the same effects in german for Umlauts like "ÄÖÜäöü".
This comes up when the source of the text is e.g. in ISO-Latin and your drupal site is using UTF8.

Did you type in the text directly or did you use cut and paste?
