Problem/Motivation

This is a followup issue for #945524: Field formatter settings hooks in core.

Currently it is not possible to allow other modules to alter the field formatter settings in views fields. To fix that I just execute the drupal_alter in the Drupal/field/Plugin/views/field/Field.php.

In general I think we should have a common api for loading formatter settings, that include the drupal_alter already.

Not for the settings *form* though. The summary and form itself are still altered manually by core. See http://api.drupal.org/api/drupal/core%21modules%21field_ui%21lib%21Drupa...

Do you think we should have a wrapper around it or just copy the logic in views?

For now copy the logic into Views. There's nothing really out there to abstract this yet.

Drupal core is moving towards using a “main” branch. As an interim step, a new 11.x branch has been opened, as Drupal.org infrastructure cannot currently fully support a branch named main. Thank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.

We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.

Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
