Hey there.

Is this module still being actively maintained and developed?

I see there is an issue for a D7 port, but it's not gone anywhere it would appear and doesn't function. Also there is a call to report this project as abandoned... please let me know.

I'm currently working on a module that delivers QR codes via the Google charts API. It was suggested that I possibly participate in this module, but honestly... we achieve our goal differently and I don't feel your approach is one I would take, and my approach is a complete departure from your code. The D7 release I would make would be nothing like your D6 version.

I'm open to a different approach on this project for D7. I'd almost be inclined to have it exist as a field type on nodes or a filter on text to surface qr's in blocks. As well as a theme_qr() function to handle the catch-all cases.

I'm open to discussing it. What approach would you take?

(changing to D7 version since that's what we're discussing here)

You can see the sandbox project I have made here (Code too):
http://drupal.org/sandbox/jnicola/1872858

It's currently in review and I think pretty far along the process. This is probably the last hiccup.

Main differences:

  • My module uses URL, not node fields. Simply navigate to a page, and get the QR code from the block. This means it works with views arguments, views pages, panel pages... the whole 9 yards. Drupal has long since evolved past just the node.
  • My module works instantly right out of the box. Simply place block and go. This module required configuration in D6 and doesn't work at all in D7.
  • My module has no flexibility for other QR code generation methods. Mobile Codes already does this, but in having such flexibility they're far more complex and time intensive to integrate. Anyone working in web-dev knows that if you can get the job done in 5 minutes instead of an hour, it's a valuable money maker.

So, it's a complete departure. I'm honestly feeling it'd be a bit inappropriate to create a 7.x branch here that is as full of a departure from the original intention and 6.x branch. I'd call it "Module jacking" in the sense I'd be jumping in on some one elses different work (and inherit their issue queue, heh). It'd also be awkward to maintain while D6 persists, since the two are a complete departure from each other.

It's been two weeks with no response beyond the initial. My module is moving forward, but I feel this project needs to be marked as abandoned. It's definitely stalled out.

Project: QR Codes » Drupal.org site moderators
Version: 7.x-1.x-dev »
Component: Code » Project/Git problem

Moving QR codes to a suggested "Abandoned project" phase. Communication has been largely non-existent (over two weeks) and other issues have over 12 weeks without activity or progress. Drupal 7 progress is dead in the water, original project never actually hit a stable release and is still in Beta... this project appears to very much be dead in the water.

I'm also not interested in taking over ownership, I have another module in the project application process. It's a major departure from this code (and acknowledged and recognized as such) and the manner with which this code achieved it's task.

Did you contact the project owner directly, per http://drupal.org/node/251466 ?

Yes I contacted the maintainer. Not only did I contact the maintainer but they responded here and then never got back to me again... and it's been radio silence ever since.

This module is abandoned for sure.
