Is there any working method for creating recurring payments with Drupal Commerce? I know how to do it in Ubercart with Paypal but am testing out DC. It's alluded to in Payleap but does it work in practice?

The 'official' method is supposed to be http://drupal.org/project/recurly, but I find the cost prohibitive for small or non-profit type sites. Looks like http://drupal.org/project/commerce_recurring was supposed to be the non-recurly method, but it seems to have fallen off. Unfortunately, it seems there's still a gap in this functionality.
