Issue Summary
We have currently three sources
1.IPInfo DB service
2.Maxmind service
3 Smart IP database
there are other free source databases at 1.
geonames
geonames Client Libraries focussing mainly on zipcodes but it can also work
2.GeoDataSource this requires registration to download
there should be away of fall back to source if any one of them is failing or make them commercial in due course ,the last one should be the Smart IP
also there are webservice systems, (I don't know how they work or how to put one of them to work for us)
the main idea is
1.to implement a fail-safe mechanism.
2.Reduce the load on the system

EDIT:there is another free service just like IPInfoDB.com but with lot more facilities i.e with lot of information and facilities is at Gisgraphy this uses the Geonames as sourcce
This should be a preferred source as i see a lot better service

Hi, thank you for sharing the web services links. However, Smart IP main function is to identify visitor's geographical location based on the "IP address" of the user. The key point, Smart IP takes an IP address then it returns the geographical location. The web services that you shared does not take an IP address and returns the geographical location but it takes a location address and returns geographical location.
