i'm a newbie to drupal, i've learned a lot but i'm struggling with views.. is there a good tutorial video?
or better still an easier way to make a view? a visual one maybe?
i don't want to do very difficult things, just have images next to posts and make some types of content types show on the front page.
any decent help appreciated. please bear in mind im new.. and jumped in the deep end.

Views is Visual .... sort of.
Hey,
Although I expect you're asking about a drag and drop interface when you refer to a visual way to build views, such as the "edit in situ" functionality of panels, there isn't a pure visual drag and drop way to build views that I know.
However, views does provide a visual builder that pulls in many aspects of code and objects.
Although initially confusing, if you stick with it and follow a few examples, it'll become clear to you.
There are some very good tutorials provided by NodeOne and you'll find a starter for views here Views - Getting Started. You can also access the full suite of videos on their vimeo page.
To change your front page, you can create a views page if you like. The alternative is to create views blocks and populate the regions of your front page with them.
Also check out panels, which is related to views and ctools etc.
