Great news

amariotti - November 1, 2007 - 14:55

This is great news. I can't wait to test it out! I wonder why it took so long for someone to finally do this . . . Joomla has one that semi-works, but templating in Joomla even with the extension was a pain. Can't wait to give this one a test drive!

The release will be soon

sherifmayika - November 1, 2007 - 16:40

I n compared to joomla drupal is bit complicated.

Pease suggest good documentations

Documentation for what, exactl?

MakeLemonade - November 2, 2007 - 15:57

You asked for documentation suggestions. I can't tell if you mean documentation for your dreamweaver project or documentation for Drupal's templates. If you're looking for documentation for templates, a free chapter is available here:

http://www.apress.com/book/view/1590597559

It's quite good. I've ordered the book.

Rainer01 - November 11, 2007 - 11:21

have sent application to your email address above. Unfortunally the mail returned as "Host not found".
So I send you the text this way:
Hello Sherif,

really good idea to develop a DW extension for theming.

I am working on a new theme for my private homepage.

This site will contain:

Photo galleries (flash)

Travelreports

Strockindex trading reports

And other stuff

I am using CS3 Web prem, Drupal (Image, Flash Gallery, i18 (German, English), PHPTemplate preferred (or Smarty possible), Adobe SPRY ajax,

If you think that your extension fit into this environment, I would like to use it and send you reports about.

Thank you.

any Update?

rastarr - December 18, 2007 - 02:09

I was wondering whether there's any update on your project?
You were looking at a beta release some time ago, I've signed up as a beta tester (some time ago) and no news as toy where you're up to or what help you're looking for.
Do you have a time line or project plan you might be able to briefly share so people have an idea what's going on?

thanks again for your work in this area - it'll be huge once it's out - maybe look for contributors as well to fast track release?

It would have been released a month ago,

sherifmayika - December 18, 2007 - 06:38

few people have tested and in touch with me.
It would have been released a month ago if we wanted it to serve the minimal theme features. Many asked me for advanced features, for which functions (snippet) automatically adds to the template.php.
while few people wanted dropdown primary links, css switch, tabed regions, collapible div etc using javascript. Seperate page.tpl.php for forums, blog etc. These kind of request made me delaying the release.

And drupal 6 put me in more confusion. The forum support is very limited many of my qeuestions remain unanswered.

As I said many time before I am very new to Drupal, Now I am testing differnt methods in the Extension to make it easier for the user.

I am working everyday 16 hours dedicatedly for this project. And hope that it would come out this year itself.

It is great help if you can extent help, espescially on snippetes for template.php. I want css snippets also to be added evetime the user selets an option.

Maybe it's worthwhile to

rastarr - December 18, 2007 - 07:37

Maybe it's worthwhile to submit the project officially into Drupal CVS ?

Ask for contributors or maintainers so you can get some help - working 16 hours a day on something is gonna wreck you and no-one wants to see that happen. Other people can help you code if they're able or maybe help on documentation or other stuff. I'm only new here myself but I think it's generally accepted that it's a community affair with people helping out where they can.

I'm sure there are quite a few themers that would love to know more, help or give some suggestions.

Thanks again for your reply

CVS wont help

sherifmayika - December 18, 2007 - 08:48

I dont find it difficult in creating extension. instead I have some confusion in theming ,which is the best way. this time I a not creating any news, soon it will be out

Hey Sherif looks like you got tought competition here, http://drupal.org/node/209561 , the screencast (Theme developer module for Drupal 6 - Screencast) is great though I have not use the module but think its great and as it runs inside the browser it has more advantage. Well best of luck to both developers.

Apples and Oranges

Gunderstorm - January 17, 2008 - 19:43

What the theme developer module does is tell you where to look in your code to make and add theme adjustments. It's a HUGE help (referred to as "Firebug for Drupal"), but a Dreamweaver plugin should help us design-minded folks build themes using a tool with which we are more comfortable creating.

Personally, I can't wait to try both of them!

you are correct

sherifmayika - January 18, 2008 - 02:31

devel is an excellent module. It is it support my project as it can give detailes like 'delta' for a block.

you an also retrive the information of the block by adding

<?php
print_r
(block);
?>

this code into your block. I planned the DW extension this way. Ad the module does it I will not use the same option in DW. Module is easy to enable and disable when it is not needed.

thanks

Roxpace - January 16, 2008 - 16:14

Thats a shame since almost everyone is using Drupal 5 and there are no expected release date for 6 except for when there will be a RC without anymore critical bugs and after that it will take a long time for people to convert from 4.7.x and 5.x since they are forced to wait until many modules has been upgraded for version 6.0 also.

drupal stable will be out

sherifmayika - January 16, 2008 - 16:34

within a few weeks. Don't Ask me Who gave you the authority to say so. Otherwise the the extension will not wait.

Converting previous versions to D6 will take time, That is a point.

Making the extension supporting for both 5 & 6 is not big issue. but this may confuse bewbies.

Next options is pack the extension as two different versions. May be that takes a 3-5 days more.

Any way i will conduect a surway in the below blog.

Kindly Express your openion.

Do we need authority to

Roxpace - January 17, 2008 - 08:00

Do we need authority to express opinions here and give you direction hint so you are not reaching too few users of your hopefully great product.

If you are talking about newbies you should definately consider version 4.7.x and 5.x since they are the last to upgrade to version 6 when it becomes available.

I wish you good luck, you have a good idea here and it will be a success if you reach the newbie users :)

Update?

Gunderstorm - February 19, 2008 - 06:07

Now that Drupal 6 is out, is there an update on this project?

Yes

sherifmayika - February 20, 2008 - 04:28

Where's the update?

Gunderstorm - February 20, 2008 - 22:53

If there's an update on your website, I can't find it.

I visit your site a couple of times a week. Perhaps you could turn on your RSS?

I was really hoping you might update us here on Drupal.org about when you think it might be released. I didn't want to be rude and comment on one of your more recent, off-topic posts, requesting an update.

Q)- Has even ONE PERSON

Leon.lb - February 21, 2008 - 01:38

Q)- Has even ONE PERSON seen, tested or tried this?

I use DW every day thanks very much and I don't need an extension to rapidly prototype designs and layouts, DW can do it all for me - with Firebug, CSSVista and Web dev toobar.

This thread is moths old and still nothing... what a surprise...

This is not right way

smcochin - February 21, 2008 - 04:33

If you are happy with DW alone why worry about extension

I'm starting to wonder the same thing

Gunderstorm - February 23, 2008 - 20:44

That blogspot page is rife with Adsense. I'm starting to wonder if this is just some sort of traffic-driving scheme.

I'm sure he means well but

dvessel - February 24, 2008 - 01:32

I'm sure he means well but Dreamweaver and Drupal is like oil and water. To get the two to play nicely would result in a mess and I'm sure it isn't easy to do.

Every once in a while someone will try to get it going but it never matures. It might be easier in 6 but the two approach web development differently and I'm pretty sure it would result in crippled theming if the extension ever emerges.

I've used Dreamweaver before but ditched it for more focused tools. It's a crutch hanging around from the last decade.

joon park

don't discourage please.

sherifmayika - February 24, 2008 - 03:14

it is rather discoraging and disappointing if many cries i am traffic drriving or spamming.
dvessel is right, It is a hercullian task to bridge dreamweaver and drupal, many tried the same before and quit after a while.

Drupal is stronger than jooomla and wordpress but why there is no DW
extension. If one searches on google he can find tens of template tools for joomla, the nearest competetor of drupal.

programming is only my hobby. From the pressure from drupal comminity to release I have been working on on this more than 10 hours a day, some times it prolongs 16 hours,

Since I could not release the extension on time many doubt I am lying to drive traffic, Like many bloggers I do have few ads on my bog, But how long can I cheat people.

The extension is mostly done, don't doscorage please.

It is also important to point out that a few respected memebers of drupal community is motivating me keeping a regular touch asking the progress giving advices.

I have also refused mejoirity of the beta test requests since I wanted only people who are expert in both drupal and DW. thhis also caused doubts.

When it is ready I will infom everyone, No need to visit the bog every day.

with best wishes
