The Requested url was not found on this server

Hi mates,
Please I need some help. I am a newbie with less clue about Drupal. I am in the installing process, but I got stuck after cloning Drupal to d7dev. After that, I typed http://localhost/d7dev as directed by the book. The browser displayed "the requested url could not be found on this server.

Help would be appreciated

do you have a localhost development environment with apache php and mysql in which you can install drupal?

Yes. I have a local environment

I installed xampp which contains local development environment with Apache and mysql (phpmyadmin)
