Module Failed Upgrade on update.php

Issue Summary

During the upgrade to 2.9 update.php returns the following error

Call to undefined function libraries_detect() in ../sites/all/modules/mailchimp/mailchimp.install on line 29

any attempt to access ../admin/config now returns a 500 error

Same here. I then used drush to disable the module, and so got my site back, but when I re-enabled it and selected Lists and Users tab I got the 500 error.

Edit: spoke too soon. The site is all 500 errors.
