I'm a little confused by this setting and what it does. Please explain. Thank you.

I assume you understand the concept of roles in Drupal in general. If so then all that this
setting for troll module does is allow you setup a specific role for banned users to be
placed in or to select an existing role such as anonymous to place the user in.
