I recently upgraded my website to drupal version 7.18 from version 7.14. However, after I ran update.php for DB updates and accessed the site, the UI appeared broken, for example, the top black admin bar had displaced menu items, the search bar on the site's homepage was vertically shifted, etc.
So, I extracted my old backed up code and db dump and just upgraded the code/modules without running the update.php. Now, the site is functioning fine with proper UI and the status report also indicates that the drupal core and some other modules are up-to-date. The pending db updates affect system and forum modules.
How critical are the db updates for the version 7.18? Also, is there a way to ignore/avoid them so that the status report doesn't complain about the pending db changes? If not, is there a way to selectively apply the db changes and ignore the rest?
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
