Can anyone advise me please on a good web hosting company?
I've been using Pipex and they've been pretty unhelpful.

Its important to have access to my own control panel.

I'm using GODADDY's VPS hosting.
I don't recommend their shared hosting for Drupal.

I usually recommend Dreamhost.com. If you think you can handle shared hosting without using CPanel or Plesk as they use their own panel. I find it very easy and user friendly. Their staff seems very well versed in linux and Debian is the platform of choice. I have three sites with them. All are shared host accounts, but are or different physical servers. I noticed that one is consistently slower than the other two. I think its a coin toss because some sites on the server you land might be more intensive. I speed tested these shared sites to my dedicated server i have at softlayer.com. This server has steady bandwidth so it was not a factor. The slowest dreamhost site could upload at ~500 kilobytes/sec where the other 2 could handle 800 plus. I also tried hostvector, but it's not as cheap. I can't recommend them as they did not provide anything extra for the price. BTW, now they have their 10th anniversary promo. $110 off . If you get a one year plan, it comes out to ~9 for a whole year and thats with a domain. Good luck with your search.
