Does anyone know of a module or a way for user to ONLY reply to THEIR own comments?

I came across the Private Comment Module and am looking for something similar - except that all comments will be visible. Everyone should be able to post an initial comment - however, afterwards it will only be a conversation between that user and the node author. (So other users can't just reply to any comment they want to)...

to the best of my knowledge there is nothing existing that does this. You will likely have to write a custom module.
