I have no idea what is causing this although I suspect CiviCRM.
I will be working in CiviCRM for a while when suddenly the page ceases to be themed.
When I check the themes Pixture Reloaded says it is the default theme BUT it is listed with the disabled themes and I have to enable it to restore things to normal.
What could cause this?

Jeff Burnz commentedThemes cannot disable themselves. Sorry I do not know why this would happen in your site, possibly something resetting the variable or system table.

Patricia_W commentedI discovered a thread which discussed precisely what I reported going back for years. It appeared to involve caching and sub-theme directories. I have a multi-site configuration and the AT theme is in the ALL folder whereas the Pixture reloaded theme is in the site themes folder. Could that cause problems?

Jeff Burnz commentedI don't think so, I know the issues you are probably discussing, they mostly pertained to Drupal 5 and 6 from what I recall. I have never experienced this on D7 (although I certainly do remember this on D5 being a huge pita).
That said AT only needs to be in the
sites/all/themesfolder. With the subtheme I am not actually sure, I have never really tested with multisite setups that much, not in recent years in any case.
