I have tried all methods to get tabs working which could group the fields, but no luck.
I am using Field group in Dispaly Suite and Renderable Elements.

Please have a on the attached screen shots.

Supposedly you have to wrap them all in an outer group (accordion group, etc.), but I'm not getting any results.

It does not work ad I don't understand why the option is there to display the fields groups in a vertical tab but then nothing happens. The only one that works is DIV

You need to add an extra group of the type 'Vertical tabs group'. Vertical tabs always need to be in that kind on group in the display section.
When you are on the form settings, this is not needed, because they will fall into the cores vertical tab wrapper. However you still can add a wrapper, and then 2 vertical tabs groups will be shown.
In latest release, you'll get a warning if you are missing this wrapper.
