Sprite handling for icons

I found it extremely difficult to use icons from my sprite image.

Everytime, I run page speed from google, it gives lots of recommendations for shareThis resources, whether it's icon images or javascript loading and rendering.

No doubt it's a great module, but can you guys please design it to match with best pratices and so that it doesn't hamper the performance of sites using this module?

I clearly see javascript and sprite image for icons is a must fix in this module.
