I've been using this module in the past (years ago), and image nodes as well as attachments were created. However, the image nodes created by 'Upload Image' appear not to be image nodes compatible with the 'image' module; for example, no image derivates are being created. But: Image nodes and attachments survived at least one major upgrade (D5 to D6). 'Image' module works well on D6; "real" 'Image' module image nodes get proper derivates etc. The problem are only remainders of old 'Upload Image' nodes.

If I'm correct, I'd like to know if there is a way to convert image nodes created by 'Upload Image' into full 'Image' module nodes, or - at least - if there is a way to distinguish both types (e.g. a criterion to allow bulk processing with something like VBO). If I'm wrong, I'd like to know what I can do to get proper images derivates. Alternatively, I'd be happy as wll with a tool to get rid of 'Upload Image' completely without losing the image nodes (I don't need the node attachments anyway).

Obviously, the background of this question is a) a cleanup of broken components on my sites (I'd consider missing Image derivates as something broken), and b) preparations for the D7 migration. According from my sandbox experiments, this mixture of "real" and "fake" image nodes creates a s******d of migration problems.

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Probably this is important as well: I stopped using 'Upload Image' a long time ago because the module had severe issues on D6 (e.g. duplicates of attaches images were created with every saving of the source node). To prevent duplicates over and over again, I disabled and uninstalled 'Upload Image' and am using the plain 'Image' module. When 'Upload Image' is active and enabled, the "2nd class" image nodes behave differently.

My point here is that 'Upload Image' does not create full 'Image' nodes that can be properly handled and processed with 'Image' module without having 'Upload Image' do weird things in the background.
