theming: underscore on theme folder still seen?

when putting a backup folder of my theme in the sites/all/themes folder, I put an underscore on the old folder and cleared caches in Drupal and my browsers. But, it still read the folder!??

I can't find anything about an underscore on the theme folder name as being valid or if it triggers something else. Slamming an asterik before the first letter hide the theme folder but why didn't an underscore?

Just wondering if I just hit a blip in my set-up or if I discovered something else I don't know about

underscores are allowed.

yes, but if the original

yes, but if the original theme folder is: batmanTheme and that is how it is addressed in the .info file and then I change the folder name to _batmanTheme, how is that name still recognized in the info/admin etc?

I changed the folder name effectively but Drupal seemed to just skip over the underscore?

ah. that i can't explain nor can I test at moment. Perhaps developers have relaxed sensitivity on the folder itself. If you change the name in total does that cause issues?
