I think I've followed the install instructions in the readme, including the updates here (needing the token module too, using stable versions where possible etc) but following giving it the database details, I just get the WSOD: 'view source' shows a blank.
If I install an ordinary boring Drupal install, it works.

Looking around, the install has got as far as putting the database details into sites/default/settings.php, but not as far as setting that file to read-only.
#2
You have two 4.7 versioned modules which are incompatible with Drupal 5.x
Try downloading the 5.x dev versions of tagadelic and vote_up_down
http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/tagadelic-5.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz
http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/vote_up_down-5.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz
f that worked for you, then go ahead and mark the status of this issue from fixed to closed.
Or re-activate it if you need more info.
#3
Argh, I missed that there weren't stable 5.x versions of those two and installed the stable 4.7 ones, didn't I? Thanks and 'blush'.
I've deleted the old ones and replaced them with the new,
I then emptied the database by deleting all of the tables and replaced the sites/default/settings.php with a virgin copy and tried again...
... it still WSODs on me.
#4
I've also tried deleting and recreating the whole directory tree, just in case something was hidden somewhere, without success
#5
I actually tried to install it as well, and I got a WSOD at install.php?profile=cod
#6
Yep. It would be good if there were some 'I've done this, I've done that' status messages so we can see where it's all going worng.
#7
I have just tried the same install with all the current versions (as of 20 December 2007) including Drupal 5.5. I enter the database details, it creates the base database files, and then stops. I've checked the database against the cod.profile file, and it has not even reached a point of setting the default theme to cod_organizing. When I refresh the page, the update script runs to tell me it has been run, but when I go to admin or home, it is white with no source.
I re-installed with the standard profile, and that worked fine.
I tried resetting the path name in the settings file, but that had no effect.
#8
I've tracked back the problem, but I don't know the solution. My error logs show
Allowed memory size of 20971520 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 83 bytes)
Unfortunately, I don't think I can persuade my host to up the amount of memory. Is there any way to reduce the footprint of the COD?
#9
I've got the same problem, and I don't get the memory exhausted error (I don't think).
Downloaded all the latest releases of modules.
I get to "Select an install profile" page. I select Conference Organizing.
Then I enter the database configuration.
Then I get the white screen. I look in the database and a number of tables have been created. When I try to re-run the install script, it says that it has already been installed.
These are the only php errors I can find:

Any suggestions?

SAME ISSUES HERE. Where the heck is everybody on this issue. We've made the switch from Joomla and Mambo, so how about a little support here. Are you telling me that only PC guys are running the COD package?
I personally have jumped through every ring of fire on this one.... php settings etc etc etc.... NOTHING!
HELP!!!

I am getting the same result. I am using MAMP and I have just recently downloaded all the needed modules and I've used Drupal 5.7. I can install and get the site going, but after creating a new conference, it gives me a white page. I can get back to the login page by using conference/user in the address bar, but if I log out of the site from the admin account, the site goes all white again.
UPDATE:
I enabled and made Garland the default theme, and the site works. At this point, it seems that the problem may lie in the cod_organizing theme.

The problem lies in the integration between the current theme and some of the contributed modules that are being used. There were a number of module updates that changed some of their functions and APIs and that caused some breakage.
