bjaspan sez: What worries me is that people will uncheck that box, because they think that it's going to update the *code* on my site.. NO WAY!

Draft changes to the description on Update notifications installer checkbox attached.

Looks good to me, reads much more clearly. I remember this being the source of much pain before, so could do with a third pair of eyes on it.

Keith: Thanks for doing this! Your rewrite is a big improvement. I tweaked it slightly; new patch attached.

Can we convey the same information in a significantly shorter paragraph. The one in the installer is already pretty long, but this adds a lot more stuff again. Also, we use one space between sentences when multiple sentences follow each other.

Oh, that first sentence was intended to be a question.

When the Update notifications option is enabled, Drupal will periodically check for important bug fixes and security releases, then inform you when these are available for download. This process requires your site to periodically send anonymous information on its installed components to drupal.org. Enabling this option will significantly enhance your site\'s security and is highly recommended. For more information please see the update notification information.

I cut about five words out, can't see much more that can be cropped without removing necessary information though.

Brevity is the essence of wit. New patch:

With this option enabled, Drupal will notify you when new releases are available. This will significantly enhance your site\'s security and is highly recommended. This requires your site to periodically send anonymous information on its installed components to drupal.org. For more information please see the update notification information.
