I have enabled the widget, setup which node types, it should be visible on, cleared the cache, but the widget does not show up on the node pages?

Ah, seems vud_node are going to be removed in D7: http://drupal.org/node/1889596#comment-6943712

Might want to put that on the project page.

It is on the front page a long time ago ;-)

Hopefully I will make another alpha soon removing that module.
