hook_file_default_displays

I'm looking at existing module code for those that integrate with the Media module since I'm writing one as well. I see plenty of comments that indicate implementation of hook_file_default_displays. But I can't find anything in the Drupal API about hook_file_default_displays. Can anyone point me to documentation about what this hook is expecting?
