Make use of drupal_alter()

This module provides a much needed feature and I'm very appreciative of this whole project. The way this module sits in its own little bubble is just about the most frustrating thing ever, though. There are zero calls to drupal_alter in the entire project. I can see the problems in creating an API for a module that is still in active development but I guess the project is already mature enough for this. Thinking about the API would also benefit this project by providing some sort of a technical guideline for future development. What do you guys think?
