I have created a file uploader and it works just fine. In order to notify the site owner when users have uploaded files I am using the subscriptions module, which is set to e-mail the site owner whenever a new file is uploaded. Problem is that I do not want users to make subscriptions, so I am hoping that someone can tell me how to get rid of the "Subscribe: Receive notification of replies or comments to this node."-checkbox that appears on the user's upload page. Any ideas?

1.9 is being replaced by 2.0, and I think this doesn't apply to 2.0 anymore.

2.0 is currently in beta -- please help test it, but heed the warnings.

BTW, assigning yourself means that you will be working to provide a patch to fix the issue.
