Some time ago nsk asked for help on #drupal-support: his site was badly broken. After some investigation, I managed to fix it. Also it lead to a bugfix in Drupal later.

The real success story is that after the fix, he generously offered me to buy something from my wish list. Today I've got the great book called Shadow of the Giant from Orson Scott Card and I am near to cry 'cos of joy. Thanks a lot!

Fair play to you chx......

Got me thinking that a wishlist.module might be a good idea for people "stuck in a module (problem) they can't get out of"...to paraphrase a fellow dubliner, or who are having difficulty with something.

I don't mind helping out, if I can, on here as I got a lot of help when i was starting out.

Don't get me wrong..I don't expect anything in return, but I think there's scope to push out the envelope a bit when the problem is critical or important enough to warrant a reward.

The wishlist.module would keep it voluntary and doesn't overtly commercialise the community vibe that already exists.

What do you think?

My wife wants a wishlist module :). I figured if it still didn't exist in a month, I might take a crack at learning enough php to write it.

Let's see.
Tie it to the user account.
Store data in the database
Need a way to add field/rows
Need to have a way for the user to 'check off' items (and the output reflect that)
Check box, brief one line decription, place for link (optional)
Maybe hook it into folksonomy or something for the user to catagorize it on an individual basis....
Outut needs a way to theme the display

Am I missing anything?

Any movement on this? I've just begun looking for something to fill this role myself. I'd be most interested in anything you've worked up.

I was just going through the forums to see if anybody was asking about the wishlist.module that I maintain (created circa October 2005) and found this older thread. The module is on version 2.0 and is stable for Drupal 4.7 and Drupal 5.0 (a v1 of the module exists for Drupal 4.6 if you need that). You can play with it on my demo site, http://wishlist.mclewin.com

I could spend days working on the problem without being able to fix it, thanks again for helping me!

I think open-source projects should encourage users to make voluntary payments and donations, not just to the project but also to individual developers and helpers.

Drupal definitely needs a wishlist module and other components that can make sharing and giving easier.
