Hello,
I'm curious how the module's future looks at the moment, if alpha version will have upgrade path to beta or would dev be a better option at this point? Any wild guesstimations how far Title is from beta?

Yes, we will totally support upgrade from alpha to beta. Actually I'd say beta is not far, we just have to fix a couple of major bugs with programmatical workflows and then we should be ready.

Unfortunately right now I'm focused on D8 core since we are near to feature-freeze so I can't say when this will actually happen.
