Taxonomy organization question

I have used the taxonomy module and created a vocabulary called "Topics". Under topics i have a large number of terms like Home remodeling, home ownership and moving and have subtopics like kitchens, bathrooms, local moves etc. The list is very long. What I liked about this is that I could make Home remodeling the parent of kitchens and do the same for moving (parent) and local moves as a child.

The long list of terms under Topics is not a problem for me, but for people entering new forum posts, the large number of terms under topics might be a bit too much.

Is there a better way to organize the content? I thought about creating new vocabularies l like Moving with the following terms interstate, local, do it yourself? What would be the pros and cons of either approach?
