Hello Guys;

I just started to learn about Drupal and i apologize if these questions are stupid....

Just recently I got a godaddy hosting account, which provides a 1 click installation. The install was good, and I can now log into my portal and navigate around the features it has...

Now from a development perspective, since its already installed in my root directory on the server, do i need to copy everything to my local machine to edit the content, and how do I go about installing additional features, such as commerce kick start along with a MAMP client (aveieo..i think).....

My goal is to setup an commerce site, and i was wondering what is the best / recommended approach doing so....

Thanks for your help on this

commerce kickstart is an installation profile. If the intent is to use an installation profile you should use it's installer on your localhost. Delete the version on the server and move the -dev site to the server when completed. IMO, long run this is better than the alternative and trying to run a hosts one click install as a production site.

Thanks..now another stupid

Thanks..now another stupid question and that is, what do I need to remove of the web host since I already installed it. Is there an easy way?

Another issue that happened, is when installing acquila desktop kickstart, and installing with the defaults, upon running the app, it says local domain name is reserved. This is on a Mac....is there a way to make it work?

Thanks again guys....

acquia dev desktop documents should be read. It does work on a mac.

Installing Drupal

This is not a stupid question. This is a new-comer question. Don't under estimate yourself. Drupal is a one of the most complex CMS in the world. However, come to the point, you can install drupal in many ways in your desktop and server.
For example - you can install by Dev Desktop. Or directly download commerce kick start in MAMP / XAMP server in www/htdocs folder. So, I recommend you to learn this from here http://www.lynda.com/Drupal-training-tutorials/186-0.html.

As per my knowledge, when you will install by Dev Desktop, localhost is reserved for its own Acquia Drupal and not for core Drupal or Commerce Kickstart (it included core drupal). So, try by changing name of server (anything other than localhost). Though I am expert in Windows and not Mac.

I'm with Go Daddy and came across your post.

Were you able to successfully remove your content from your hosting account?

If not or if you have any additional questions I'm more than happy to assist. Please feel free to reply or send me a private message.

Replying to your question...

In 1srt. place, commonly the 1-clic installation services are good, but is not suitable if you gonna make a website in a different language that not be the english (i.e. spanish) and Drupal 7 is easier that Drupal 6 in a User Interface managment (but in command managment, boths are equal).

In 2nd. place, you can use the tool called drush for copy all your database (well, drush is a tool that use commands and need download it if you're using Windows), but the site management gonna be easier with drush.
