I have tested out http://nearlyfreespeech.net and I am very satisfied. They just speak my language instead of marketingspeech:

Keep in mind that while we aren't lawyers, neither are we idiots. We can tell the difference between people harassing our members via the DMCA and cases where our service is genuinely being misused, and we can adjust our attitude accordingly.

We are a real business designed to last, not a venture capital/IPO/bankruptcy Ponzi scheme.

Once you SSH in, there is cvs and clean URLs just work. And the bill is very nice -- basically nothing until there is traffic. Very nice. Also, when there will be traffic, like a massive digg/slashdot one, even that will cost you only approx. $10 and the site will remain up instead of some very unfriendly message about excessive usage.

Negatives: you need to mail your SSH public key to be able to use that but once that's done, you can use it with all your sites. Another bit is that there is no cron but they are considering something for it until then, http://www.webcron.org/index.php?&lang=en will serve me well.

Damn.
Nice pricing policy.
Nice mission statement.
Too bad they don't yet offer PHP5, and run PHP4 in 'safe_mode'.
That eliminates some of the useful stuff I like to do...
