When I open a local html document directly with Firefox, it is displayed correctly. If I open it with Firefox running within the Quickstart environment, various html elements are interpreted incorrectly. For example:

(1) &middot appears as '&middot' rather than as a centered dot.
(2) Line feeds cause line breaks in the displayed text.

I'm mystified as to why this is happening.
