Product Connecting to Course

Hello Everyone,

Need some help here..Extremely desperate! My company is dealing with the developer from #@!#
I have no access to the backend other than an "administrative" control panel that permits me to add products and create a course.

I cant seem to get a straight answer from my developer on this quesiton and she's not returning calls! lol

Right now a customer can come to the site and purchase a seat in an online course. What I am having a hard time seeing/or understanding is how the product is "connected" the course. In other words, if I bought a seat in the product Microsoft Word, how does the system know to put me in the Microsoft Word course? I'm hoping one of you Drupal guru's can help. I'm not a Drupal developer by any stretch!!!

The answer will depend on which ecommerce package (Drupal commerce or Ubercart) is being used and even then it will depend on choices made by the developer.
