We’ve benefited from Drupal, believe strongly in its future and are extremely thankful that the community and its leadership have done such a great job. There are lots of ways to give back. While we try to be active in forums and vigilant about submitting issues, patches, etc..., those contributions can, unfortunately, can get put on hold when our schedules get crazy. As working professionals, however, we do get paid when those crazy times occur, which opens up another way to give back.

So, we're doing something that we hope has enough merit to encourage others to follow suit; from now on, we're committing to donate at least 1% of our project budgets back to Drupal. We're doing this publicly because we think it's a good idea, and we think others might be prompted to action by it.

It's a bit tricky to do this in a public way - but I think the possible benefits of being public about it (e.g. others see it and think "Hey, that's a good idea, we should do that too") outweigh the risks (e.g. being seen as a cheap grandstanding bastard or such).

We all know that all sorts of contributions are vital to Drupal’s health and longevity—time and talent being chief among them, but we want to raise the profile of the monetary donation as a way to help the tool, community and organization grow and prosper.

So, that's the idea. If you think it's a good one, join us!

Now the donation. We're donating $1,000 to the Drupal Association today - which is quite a bit past the 1% for the site in question (www.rakemag.com), but we're also thinking about this as being a bit retroactive in nature.

Thanks Drupal!

Wow, 6 days and no one has commented on this? Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and speak for Drupal and say thanks, then. While you're right that time is the most precious commodity around here, money is helpful as well. :) I hope the DA puts it to good use.

:)

Yes - I noted this thread has been pretty silent. We're going to keep donating, though... hopefully some others join in...

It may not be immediately obvious, but we're still here and still giving. Since this was originally posted, we've sponsored Drupalcon Boston, joined the DA as an organizational member and continue to build up and distribute our Drupal funds.

As we continue to give, we'll see these donations show up in other places as advised by members of the DA (e.g. Drupalcon sponsorships) - it's our intent to give where it's needed most.

Again, we encourage others to join us in our commitment! As the form says: "Drupal loves you"!
