FREELENS with over 1500 members Germans biggest photographers association launched her new web site with Drupal 5.3.
Special are the tab controlled user profiles. www.freelens.com/juergen-stumpe
Every user has his own home page with four tabs. Profile (with google maps), Gallery a gallery per User, Publications user publications in magazine, or expositions, Intern (only for the user) has a file server, mailman mailing lists, a scratch block and his personal data from the association, like member number, entrance date etc.
We changed a bit the usual Drupal usability. User at freelens.com do not leave their home page to create content. The user menu is displayed right hand on the white screen under the general links. After editing his profile, travels, buddylist, invite, field of activity or publications he is always returned back to his user profile. There is no extra block for the user navigation in the block area.
The web site uses googlemaps and location (thanks to the developers) for active travels of the users www.freelens.com/whoiswhere and also for the user profiles. You can search user under www.freelens.com/fotojob .
The association, has a own magazine and a own gallery and offers a lot of services to members that only members can see. Look at the “Members only” link on teasers.
We use the following Drupal modules unchanged: Locale, Menu, Path, Profile, Taxonomy, Upload, Contact List, JSCalendar, Scheduler, TinyMCE, Views, Views UI, Ad, CCK, Aggregator, Content Taxonomy, Views, daterange, Forward, External Links, Throttle, Javascript Tools, Gmap, Locations, Mass Contact, Node Family, Automatic Nodetitles, Poormanscron, Submit Again, Token, Views fusion
Hacked modules: Search (core), Contact(core), Mailman Manager, Insert view, Page Array, Simplenews, Pathauto, IMCE, Buddylist, Captcha, Event, Premium, Imagecache, Mailman Manager, Path Filter, Pdfview, Search config, Thickbox, User ReadOnly, Alpha Pager, Views Bonus Pack, CCK Email field
Own modules: Publications, Gallery per User, User Profile
The theme is a own development.
The development of the web site was shown at FrosCon 2007 in Bonn see a video here: http://froscon.erdfisch.de/?q=node/3 . Sorry its only in German.

how to add? But we don´t use Gallery2, Thats ok?

No Gallery2: Even better!
You just need to log in (need a Drupal groups account) and press edit at the top of the page. Then hack the html as required.
See: http://groups.drupal.org/node/7018
Cheers,
Marc.

The way it should be.
The user-centric approach is freezing (.... I mean cooler than cool).
I'm pretty sure even unexperience users will be able to participate.
Thanks for sharing.
User centric approach
hi alldirt,
thanks, it took us some time to find out how it can be done in Drupal. Now we have a page with a usability a bit like google or xing.
